Pictures With the New Camera
I have been toying with purchasing a Canon model with a full frame sensor to replace my Rebel XSi for sunset and landscape shots. Monday I stopped by Kemore Camera to look at Canon's 5D Mark II. I could not pass up a used one there for $500 off retail.
The wide angle EF-S zoom lenses for my Rebel and 7D cannot be used with the 5D, but my EF 100-400 zoom can, so I will use that combo until I purchase an EF zoom. I am considering this lens if Kenmore Camera can order one from their supplier. The earthquake in Japan disrupted camera and lens production of all the Japanese manufacturers.
Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM
Here are some shots from Tuesday night on Sunset Ave. with the 5D Mark II/100-400 zoom. All are uncropped except for the very last one, a shot of the moon. I will probably have to bite the bullet and learn to shoot in RAW in order to get the most out of the 5D Mark II.

Nice shots, I like the one with the ferry. I have had the 5d2 since around the time they came out a few years ago. I love the images they produce. I have a few L lenses, but only 2 zooms -- the 17-40 and the 24-105, I think the 28-300 is a bit much but if you could only buy 1 zoom that is a good candidate. I prefer constant aperture zooms in general. Have fun and why not shoot your ST3?

I heard back from the camera store. There is questionable availability of the 28-300, so I am open to suggestions. I want to stick with an L series lens.

Absolutely...shoot in RAW. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages (imho). No sense in throwing away information that you can use to tweak the photograph!

Because I would have to wash it first.
I am still getting used to the new camera. I'll be glad when I get a wide angle lens for it, as I want to transfer the 100-400 zoom lens back to the 7D for bird photography and use the 5D for sunset and landscape shots.
