Compact camera recommendations? - Ducati.ms

Looking to buy my wife a new camera for Mother's day (she wants one). Problem is, while researching, I'm finding that some of the best rated cameras have a slow reaction time and poor battery life, which are two of the highest priorities in selecting a new camera. Hopefully someone here can offer some recommendations.

Basically, looking for a compact digital camera that's reasonably easy to use. Captures good images with quick reaction time and has decent battery life... i.e. can last a day at the zoo, etc., capture over a dozen images without having to change batteries several times.

Not looking for SLR quality pictures. A good point-and-shoot is sufficient.. some advanced features that are easy to use are welcome.

I have great luck with the Canon SD and S series and I can assure you they will last all day for general shooting with plenty fast shutter response for most photos.
For better shutter response and really excellent results check out the S95. For a lot lower cost and good results I would look at the SD1400 or SD3500.
Plenty of other good options from Lumix and Nikon too.
