huge moon
I was wondering if you guys are going to take pictures of the moon tonight. I enjoyed the one Bill Anderson took awhile back and was wondering if it's huge size makes a difference when shooting?

Attached is a photo of the moonset off my back deck about 5:45 this morning. I'll try for some shots of the moonrise tonight if it is clear. Here is good explanation of the super full moon. I have to wonder if it will really appear much larger or brighter to the naked eye.

I went down to the fishing pier to get some shotsof the moon as it rose.
#1-2: A cloud layer on the horizon caused these shots to be duds.
#3-4: Some shots from a few minutes ago off my back deck. A thin cloud layer still causes the shots to look "soft."

The trick to making the moon's surface visible so the craters can be seen is to eliminate the glare. This can be done by using as high a shutter speed and as small an aperature opening as possible which still gives a visible image.
You need a zoom lens if you want to duplicate the giant moon, which is an optical illusion that fools our brains but not the camera's. if you have a digital SLR camera, take it out during next month's full moon and experiment with different ISO, aperature, and shutter settings.
