PNW Orca
Today I had the good fortune of seeing at least three orca off the fishing pier while I was on my daily bird patrol. I have lived here over 19 years, but this was the first time I have seen orca out in Puget Sound.
#1-2: Orca breaching.
#3-5: This is where it gets interesting. If you look closely, you can see a seal (or sea lion) behind the orca's dorsal(?) fin. There are three Puget Sound resident orca pods: J, K, and L. Our resident orca just eat slamon, so the seal has nothing to worry about if these orca were members of a resident pod. If they were transients, then the seal risks becoming a meal.
#6-10: There was a lot of splashing as the orca passed by the seal. All of them may have been after salmon, as I think I could still see the seal's head in one of the photos after the orca passed by.

#1: The light gray dot to the left of the mostly submerged dark orca looks like the seal.
#2: Heading out.
#3: Two orca are visible in this photo.
#4: And three are visible in this poto.

Bill... Outstanding! There's nature on TV, then there's nature in person. Nothing like it.

Revisiting this thread, I don't see my photos! Is anyone else having the same issue?

According to the Seattle Timeas, those were transient orca that I saw, so they most likely hunting that seal which was in some of my photos.
Local News | Transient orcas hunting seals in Puget Sound | Seattle Times Newspaper
Some internet forums only allow members to post a limited amount (megabytes) of photos. I have been posting lots of photos on Ducati.MS for a long time, so maybe I reached my limit.
